The Curious Oyster Catering Co. is an innovative team of oyster lovers, passionate about bringing a new experience to Vancouver.

Like wine, there is a story behind every oyster—a profile with a unique flavour, salinity, sweetness and texture.

Our goal is to inspire people to be part of this movement by exploring oysters from various regions, learning about growing methods, and having direct contact to the farmers.

We’re all about oysters, and we want to share our passion with you at your next event.

Richard Boucher is the creative force behind The Curious Oyster Catering Co. Given his passion and wealth of oyster knowledge, you might be surprised to find he grew up in landlocked Ontario and hadn’t tasted his first oyster until he was in his 20s. Richard’s exploration of the culinary world began with a move from his hometown of Windsor, Ontario to Ottawa in 2003. There, he began working with husband and wife team, Joshua and Cherri Bishop, at their renowned Whalesbone Oyster House. Richard credits Joshua with helping him discover the world of oysters and honing his craft, learning about varieties, flavours, textures and regions

Since arriving in Vancouver in 2010, Richard has set out to raise the bar on the oyster experience, with meticulous attention to detail and a unique presentation that’s simultaneously elegant and unfussy, combining mismatched saucers with crystal platters and rustic wood.

Richard’s creative culinary flare inspired by his love of french cooking and wine lends itself exquisitely to experimenting with different variations of mignonettes, fruits and wines. As a lifelong environmentalist, it was important to Richard that The Curious Oyster be both Ocean-Wise Certified and connected to local farmers for sourcing oysters and other ingredients.

Since The Curious Oyster’s first event in 2011, buzz quickly spread and and they now cater events of 30 to several hundred people.
